Pöllauberg

Pöllauberg is famous beyond its borders. Located in the middle of the Pöllau Nature Reserve, it is called “the sunny terrace of Eastern Styria” because of its stunning panoramic views over the Pöllau valley all the way to Slovenia and the Hungarian lowlands.

The origins of this region as a pilgrimage destination can be traced back to the 12th century. The nearby Church of St Ann became too small as a place of worship and therefore the Pöllauberg church was erected in the 13th century. It is a High Gothic architectural jewel. Year after year thousands of pilgrims come to the church for salvation and prayer.

For decades Pöllauberg has been dedicated with much love to floral decorations and in the years 1985, 2003, 2009, 2012, 2013 and 2014 it has won the Floral Decoration Prize of Austria. Also unforgettable was the win as “the most beautiful place of Styria” in 2009 in a newspaper competition. In 1986 Pöllauberg won the European competition “Entente Florale” and was elected as the European Floral Village. Some local companies and private people have also won floral competitions. In 2000 Pöllauberg designed a new attraction. Theme and adventure gardens around Pöllauberg were built in an effort to make the green belt more attractive to visitors. We would like to welcome you to Pöllauberg and hope that you take the time to get to know this special region.
